The goals of Vietnam shrimp industry by 2025

Prime Minister Nguyen Juan Foucus has designed a national master plan for shrimp industry by 2025, aimed at turning this industry into a key economic sector with sustainable development. According to the plan, the country plans to export shrimp at $ 5 billion in 2020 and $ 10 billion in 2025, while the country will spend $ 3.6 billion through shrimp industry in 2016, And in 2017, earned $ 3.9 billion.
It is expected that this share will be obtained through shrimp farming, as shrimp resources will be 3% in 2020, 5.5% and 2025. It should be noted that in 2016, marine resources generated 7.2% of Vietnamese shrimp. The area under cultivation in 2016 will be 239714 hectares, which will reach 740,000 hectares in 2020 and reach 800,000 hectares in 2025. Vietnam mainly concentrates its breeding production on Vannamei shrimp and then Monodon.
It plans to produce 480,000 tons and 700,000 tons of antimony in 2020 and 2025 respectively, while in 2016 it will produce 39,3429 tons. The production of monodon shrimp in 2016 is 853.263 tons, according to the plan, the production of this species will be 320 and 400 thousand tons in 2020 and 2025 respectively.

Prime Minister Phuc said in February last year Vietnam will strive to become a major hub of shrimp production in the world. Ca Mau, Bac Lieu and other provinces in the Mekong Delta will continue to play a central role in the country’s total shrimp production.

Vietnam will mainly focus its production on white leg, or Pacific white, shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) and black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon). The country plans to produce 480,000 MT and 700,000 MT of the white leg shrimp in 2020 and 2025, respectively, up from 393,429 MT in 2016. The production of the black tiger shrimp will go up to 320,000 MT and 400,000 MT in 2020 and 2025, respectively, from 263,853 MT in 2016, according to the plan.
